Mt. Soledad
As an amateur photographer I’m always looking for the next best shot. But I can always count on a trip to Mt. Soledad to inspire me. With incredible views up and down the coast, this relatively uncrowded photo op spot is a great place to visit any time of the year.
Members of the military and military families may especially enjoy viewing the various memorial plaques that surround the Mt. Soledad cross. Many include touching tributes to loved ones who served our country with honor and distinction.
While watching a sunset from the beach is an awesome experience, the view from Mt. Soledad is pretty incredible as well. Especially in the 10 minutes or so after the sun goes down. The city just seems to transform as it gets darker. More and more buildings light up, the red and white light trails from cars heading up & down the 5 Freeway are more distinct, and a peaceful quiet seems to descend. ** HINT: If you do head up to Mt. Soledad after dark or on a cool/windy day, remember to pack a jacket! The winds do tend to whip around some up there, and you don’t want to miss out on a great experience because you’re too cold to stick around!
