Culture & Cocktails: Sorolla and America

The art jumps off the walls during the San Diego Museum of Art’s Culture & Cocktails

Featuring the summer exhibition Sorolla and America, Culture & Cocktails sets sail on July 10. This modern twist on Sorolla’s beach scenes and sun soaked landscapes features: “Valencian Grog” signature cocktails by Ballast Point, a seafaring photo-booth, table-top shuffle board, a candy bar, and more nautical-themed treats. In addition, DJ Gabe Vega will be spinning along with a saxophone performance by Jason Whitmore. Come dressed in maritime stripes or your summer’s best.

2014 Annual Over The Line Tourney

Batter Up! It’s time once again for sun, sand and the annual Over the Line (OTL) tournament, a San Diego invented sport. If you have never seen OTL before, go check it out on Fiesta Island in Mission Bay. You will not regret it. Remember, observe the five B’s rule: No Babies, No Bottles, No Bowsers, No Bikes, No Boas. Enjoy!

The 9th Annual Fiesta del Sol is a two-day street festival celebrating the history, diverse cultures, and civic engagement of the people of San Diego. It’s a fun, family-friendly, alcohol- and tobacco-free event focused on creating positive change by empowering communities. Fiesta del Sol includes an entertainment stage, a multi-cultural food court, four community pavilions, and over one hundred booths sponsored by local small businesses, non-profit organizations, and corporate partners.

10th Annual Switchfoot Bro-AM

 The 10th Annual Switchfoot Bro-Am surf contest and concert returns to Moonlight Beach in Encinita. The free daylong beach event features a variety of activities including a charity surf contest, a nerf surf jousting exposition between surf contest heats, the Rob Machado Bro Junior, and live music performances from Switchfoot, The Future’s League, Run River North, and Cody Lovaas on the beach. The evening will round out with a screening of Switchfoot’s documentary, Fading West, along with an intimate performance from Switchfoot at La Paloma Theatre.

Ballast Point Beer Festival

Ballast Point 18th Anniversary Beer Festival

This is a beer festival in an un-paralleled setting…what better way to enjoy some beers than aboard historic ships and submarines while taking in the waterside scenery! Attendees will be able to walk aboard each of the vessels and sample around 50 beers at different locations throughout the museum.

I would love to know what they are doing that is so top secret.What is your favorite San Diego outdoor activity?So many choices, but if I have to pick one I would choose bikingrunningsoccerbocceball. Though sitting outside with a good book on a sunny day would come in close second.Do you prefer burgers and beer or linguine and red wine?Nothing could be better than a San Diego Craft Beer (Hess, Stone, Ballast Point, Automatic, and many many more) and a burger with onion rings and BBQ-sauce. Though you will often find me boiling some pasta with a glass of wine in my hand and Ratatouille on in the background.Latest music purchases for my iPod/MP3 player are…A few albums by Jonathan Coulton, the ultimate geek musician.
