About: Alex

Alex

I have been a Southern Californian my whole life and a San Diegan since 1993, which means I have been permanently adapted to perfect weather.  I am a big fan of my city -- its character, its diversity, its climate -- and I feel very fortunate to be raising two boys here.

What would you do on your ideal San Diego day?

Breakfast burritos at the beach.
Balboa Park – Reuben H. Fleet’s Kid City and current Giant Worlds exhibit;  take a spin on the miniature railroad; picnic lunch.
Drop the kids at home and finish off the day with a flamenco show and dancing in the Gaslamp Quarter.
Good night.

If you were invisible, where would you go?

That’s easy – San Diego Zoo’s petting zoo.  I would stay close to one particular goat and “speak” for him as folks try to pet him – “Do I know you?” “You washed your hands first, right?” and so on.  The pandas and Shamu would quickly take a backseat to San Diego’s newest animal icon, the talking goat!

What is your favorite San Diego outdoor activity?

In one word or less: beach.
In thirteen words or less: any of our music, art and cultural festivals – too many to narrow down!

Do you prefer burgers and beer or linguine and red wine?

It’s San Diego!  Give me California burrito and horchata or give me death!

Latest music purchases for my iPod/MP3 player are…

Erykah Badu - New Amerykah
(San Diego’s own) Rafter – Sex Death Cassette
Vampire Weekend - Vampire Weekend
Duke Ellington - Blues In Orbit
