Hop to it! San Diego’s Delightful Easter Brunches

Easter Eggs

Spring has sprung – my favorite time of year! The sun is shining, beach sands are sparkling and flowers are blooming from the coasts of Coronado, Mission Bay and La Jolla to our inland mountains (Julian daffodils!) and deserts (Borrego Springs’ wildflowers). As Easter weekend approaches, following are a few fun seaside brunches for the whole family to enjoy (save me some Easter eggs! 😉 ):

Champagne Brunch at the Hotel del Coronado

Easter Bunny at The Del!

Easter Bunny at The Del!

On March 31, families are in for a hopping good time at the Hotel del Coronado with their champagne Easter brunch in the magnificent oceanfront Ballroom and Crown Room. The menu looks delish! Festivities begin at 9:00 AM and go until 3:00 PM. There will be live entertainment and old-fashioned egg hunts on the beachside Windsor Lawn, plus a craft ‘egg’-stravaganza and photo opps with the Easter Bunny! Activities are free and open to hotel guests and those attending the brunch.

Easter Brunch at Paradise Point Resort

Enjoy Easter brunch along the shores of Mission Bay at the Paradise Point Resort & Spa (celebrating its 50th anniversary!). From 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM, guests are invited to ring in spring at their bayside restaurant Baleen and choose from a delectably artful, a-la-carte Easter brunch menu by Chef Amy DiBiase, with entrées starting at just $12.

Brunch at L’Auberge Del Mar

Celebrate Easter in style by the sea at L’Auberge Del Mar. Easter brunch a-la-carte is featured at their signature restaurant Kitchen 1540. Or enjoy a sumptuous ocean view buffet at their Waterfall Terrace Restaurant. L’Auberge promises plenty of Easter sweets and treats to satisfy!

Brunch on the Water

Do something a little different and enjoy an Easter brunch not just near the water but on the water! Both Hornblower Cruises and Flagship Cruises are offering delicious dining with beautiful views along the waters of San Diego’s Bay.

Reservations for all of these brunches are recommended.

Looking for something fun to do with mom? While you can find more great Mother’s Day offers and events at SanDiego.org, here are our 5 to Try for Mother’s Day, May 13, 2012…San Diego style:

1. Mother’s Day Kayaking

You can either rent a kayak or take a tour, either way Mom goes free with a party of 4. Reservations are required (minimum of 4 people) and space fills up fast! Offer is valid May 12-13.

2. Mother’s Day Brunch with Shamu

Relax and be pampered while you dine poolside and experience the magical bond between SeaWorld’s killer whales and their young. You have your choice of two seatings: 9:30 am or noon. Advanced reservations are highly recommended, a SeaWorld admission ticket is required but not included.

3. Mother’s Day Champagne Brunch Cruise

Treat mom to a spectacular champagne brunch on a cruise! Whisk her onboard the new Inspiration Hornblower, the largest charter yacht south of San Francisco and all mom will have to do is enjoy the scenery, music, the wonderful cuisine, and your company. Every mom will take home a free flower! Select one of two cruising times.

Bring your mom to Anthology for a little live music and brunch from award winning chef Todd Allison. Listen to Anthology’s House Band Tribute to Women: From Billie to Aretha to Beyonce. No cover for kids 12 and under.

Dining Spotlight: La Jolla

Discover San Diego’s Neighborhoods with our Summer Sweepstakes. Join us every week as we showcase the best in what to do, where to eat, and where to stay in some of San Diego’s most unique neighborhoods. This week’s spotlight is on beautiful La Jolla.

Combine world-class chefs with spectacular views, and you’ve got a recipe for culinary excellence. La Jolla offers everything from exquisite fine dining, to the best in brunch and organic desserts. Here are some of my top picks for dining in La Jolla.

Rooftop dining at George's at the Cove

The Icons

Award-winning restaurants like George’s at the Cove (an oceanfront icon) and The Marine Room (a San Diego tradition since 1941) are as well-known for their exceptional cuisine as for their spectacular panoramic views.

Brocton Villa's famous Coast Toast

Brunch on the Beach

Brockton Villa has been serving award-winning breakfast, lunch and seasonal dinner service for 20 years. Not to be missed are the Crab Ipanema (eggs benedict with crab cakes served with a spicy tomato coconut sauce), and the world-famous Coast Toast.

Cups' Chris Jones chocolate-vanilla swirl cupcake with mocha frosting

Sweet Treats

Organic cupcakes, cupcake-infused ice cream and shakes, and all-natural strawberry milk on tap. Where is this heaven on Earth you ask? Cups in La Jolla, that’s where. Not only is its menu to die-for, but Cups is also recognized as the first 3-Star Green Certified Bakery in San Diego so when you eat there, you’re also doing something good for the environment (if not your waistline).

Roppongi's BLT Sushi Roll

Happy Hour and Tapas

Roppongi Restaurant & Sushi Bar features an award-winning Happy Hour. Get half-off the full Tapas and Sushi menu daily from 3:00 – 6:00 pm on the patio. While there, don’t miss Roppongi’s take on the BLT; the Sushi Style BLT comes with crab, bacon, avocado, arugula, and tomato with a tarragon aioli.  Delicious!

We want you to experience Roppongi’s bold and imaginative New Asian cuisine. Comment below by Monday, June 13, 2011 at 10 a.m. and get entered to win a $50 gift certificate to Roppongi. Tell us, what is your favorite restaurant in La Jolla?
