Gaslamp Quarter Locals Lifestyle & Design Tour

The Gaslamp Quarter is best known for the swanky bars, great restaurants and hotels.  But did you know the Gaslamp has over 100 retail businesses offering everything from fine art and spas to tattoo parlors and a boutique for dogs?  Some of my favorite shops are located in the Gaslamp Quarter.  The Wine Bank is the place to go when I need a great bottle of wine and sage advice.  I also love Bubbles…A Unique Boutique when I’m looking for a fun gift for a friend.

And this week is a great time to see all that the Gaslamp has to offer.  On Wednesday, November 17th from 5-8 p.m., visitors can stroll, shop and learn about the Gaslamp’s many offerings as the shops come alive to showcase their goods and services.  There will be live painting, home décor specials, wine classes, spa treatments and more.

After you’ve strolled and shopped your way through the Gaslamp, stay for bite to eat.  There is literally something for everyone.  One of my favorite spots to eat at is Lou & Mickey’s at the Gaslamp.  The restaurant features seafood, prime rib and exotic drinks in a relaxed and inviting setting.  Haven’t been?  Comment below and two lucky winners will each receive a $50 gift certificate to Lou & Mickey’s in the Gaslamp. Winners will be chosen, Wednesday, November 17th at 10:00 a.m. pacific.

About Suzzanne

I love to buy books, but seldom actually finish one. I like african violets, my iPhone, and everything that smells like lavender.  I am seriously adverse to the cold and am known to bring a sweatshirt to the beach in the summer.  I have two kids – a boy whose 10 and a girl 12.

What would you do on your ideal San Diego Day?

It would start by having breakfast somewhere near the ocean – either Pannikin in Encinitas or Beach Grass Café in Solana Beach.  Then we would head to the beach hang out for a few hours, head home and then catch a concert in the park in Balboa Park.

What is your favorite San Diego outdoor activity?

We love riding our bikes around town.  There are great places to ride in San Diego that kids can handle – Coronado Island, Point Loma or the boardwalk in Pacific Beach are just a few.

Do you prefer burgers and beer or linguine and red wine?

Depends on the day, a good burger and craft brew can really hit the spot, but I would probably end up ordering linguine and white wine.

Latest music purchases for my iPod player are…

Snow Patrol, O.A.R., Mike Moran, Eric Hutchinson

  1. I haven’t had a chance to try Lou & Mickey’s yet, but the dinner choices look great. And, they even have Root Beer Floats and Black Cows on the dessert menu!

  2. Lou & Mickey’s is the BEST!!!! My friends are in town this weekend to check out San Diego and see the Chargers play. This would be a great treat, take them to a nice dinner in Gaslamp. : )

  3. Haven’t been to the Gaslamp Quarters in over 14yrs, went back with my boyfriend this year to Lou & Mickey’s was some of the Best food that we have ever had, and we travel to quite a few places for some fab food but Lou & Mickey’s Filet Mignon & Cold Water Lobster Tail was cooked perfectly & the Steamed Broccoli with Béarnaise sauce was the best !! Hands down when my boyfriend & I come back to San Diego we would love to go back to Lou & Mickey’s evertime, and the service there is the best I have seen in a long time.

  4. We were going to eat at Lou & Mickey’s for my husband’s birthday on July 29. Unfortunately, I tripped and fell and slid my face on the sidewalk in front of Petco that afternoon. By the time I got out of the ER and the amount of stitches and horrible way I looked, we couldn’t. Still waiting on plastic surgery to fix my face. Hopefully, we’ll be able to go back to beautiful San Diego and eat there!!

  5. We’re spending Thanksgiving weekend in your beautiful city, in the Gaslamp Quarter, in fact…sounds like a trip to Lou & Mickey’s may be in order!
