Listen Live in San Diego and Win Tickets to America at the Belly Up

Last Saturday night Ozomatli blew the roof off the Belly Up Tavern in Solana Beach, ending their high-octane show playing out in the crowd. Leaving punch-drunk and grinning, I realized this is the specialty-du-jour of the happening-yet-intimate Belly Up Tavern. Perfectly sized and situated for optimal sight and sound, every show has a distinct block-party feel, if said party took place in a ridiculously talented neighborhood.

Here are a few upcoming shows throughout San Diego you don’t want to miss:

Belly Up Tavern

And who wouldn’t want these guys at their block party? America, the perennial classic-rock favorite, will be gracing the Belly Up on February 26, at 8:00 pm with chart-topping tunes like “A Horse with No Name” and “Sister Golden Hair.” If you can’t wait until then, head up this Friday, February 3 for An Evening with Keller Williams in his spectacular one-man (sometimes barefoot) show.

Anthology

Impress your sweetheart with a super swank supper this February 14, 2012. Singer John Vincent & The John Cain Orchestra will do the crooning and wooing for you with A Valentine’s Day Tribute to Sinatra as you dine in style on 3 delicious courses.

4th & B

Come see VH1 “You Oughta Know” artists on the rise, MUTEMATH, on February 3 for a guaranteed good time. “We’re not good at being dark,” says singer/keyboardist Paul Meany about their new album, Odd Soul, “so we wanted to see how far we could go into creating something glaringly bright.” That seems like San Diego to me!

It’s your chance to experience the Belly Up Tavern with 2 free tickets to America, performing February 26, 2012 at 8:00 pm. Comment on this blog by 10:00 am on Wednesday, February 8, to enter. Please include your e-mail so we can get a hold of you! Good luck!

About Maren

San Diego raised and New York City educated, I trained as a classical singer before switching to tourism marketing. Now I love telling the world about San Diego's diverse offerings, from live music to live uni. As a friend recently told me, "tough job."

What would you do on your ideal San Diego Day?

For me, a perfect day always involves something I haven't done before. And even though I grew up  in San Diego, there is SO much to do I can usually find a way to make any day ideal. Next on the list is paragliding at Torrey Pines. I also need to meet more people with boats. Anyone?

What is your favorite San Diego outdoor activity?

I am a sucker for street fairs, county fairs, music festivals and block parties. The weather is always nice, the food is always sinful and the people are always interesting. I've been to the San Diego County Fair 3 times already!!!

Do you prefer burgers and beer or linguine and red wine?

Tacos. Why does this question not include tacos? Fish tacos, carne asada, carnitas, shrimp, lobster, chorizo, vegetarian- I don't care. Put it in a corn tortilla and give it to me. Or any creation by the fabulous Jason Knibb over at 9-10 Restaurant in La Jolla.

Latest music purchases for my iPod player are…

Confession: I don't buy! I Pandora. I love everything from Tuvan throat singing to Lady Gaga. But seriously, Mahler's 2nd Symphony. Listen to it. Then we can talk.

  1. America is one of my all time favorite bands!! I’ve never been to the Belly Up, but it sounds like great fun. I lost my job in June and seeing America would be a real pick-me-up! Pick me, pick me!!!

  2. I have been a fan of America and their music since I was in High School in the 70’s. I have never gotten to see then live and would love a chance to “See America”, would make a great travel/music video ~ “See America” and never have to leave Solana Beach! Micci

  3. I love Anthology! I live near-by and they are always a fantastic choice (and the “cheaper” shows are always great, too). Never been to BellyUp yet, want to go SO BAD

  4. America would be an awesome live show. I’ve never been to Belly Up Tavern, but everyone says their venue rocks. I’d be super stoked to win.
