Artist William L. Hawkins has long been at the forefront of the 20th century self-taught movement, but the Ohio painter has recently received less than his fair share of attention. WILLIAM L. HAWKINS – An Imaginative Geography brings his important work to a wider audience. Organized by the Figge Art Museum in collaboration with Susan Mitchell Crawley, independent curator and formerly Curator of Folk Art at the High Museum of Art in Atlanta, this traveling exhibition will present approximately 60 of Hawkins’ lively paintings, drawings and sculptures.
