Warm ocean temperatures, coastal highs in the mid-70’s and crowds back in school make fall one of the best times to visit San Diego’s beaches and world-famous family attractions. But, in my opinion, an even more exciting reason to visit in fall are all the cool events celebrating the cultures and people who make up San Diego. It’s […]
5 to Try This Weekend
There’s fun stuff happening this weekend, especially on Sunday. So if you’re in the mood for great music, good food and whales and mimosas too, check out these weekend activities and events: Get your groove thang on this Saturday and Sunday at the North Park Music Thing, a two-day concert event. On Saturday night around 7 […]
Seeing Stars in San Diego
We all know about one star that everybody comes to San Diego to enjoy (the sun, folks) but what about the billions of other stars that get virtually no play here in the city where there are too many lights at night to allow us to allow us access to the heavens? Here are two fun options for getting in some quality stargazing in San Diego.
5 to Try This Weekend
My dad is coming to visit me this weekend and I couldn’t be more excited! I decided to turn our weekend plans into a special “5 to try,” which includes some of our favorite things to do and some new places we’re going to check out. I think we’re going to have a great time this […]
Something Wicked This Way Comes!
I am super excited that Broadway San Diego is bringing Wicked back to San Diego this summer! I missed it when it was here in 2006, and have been waiting patiently (or at least somewhat-patiently) for its return! Wicked will be playing at the San Diego Civic Center from July 29 – August 30. For those […]
Eye On Comic-Con
My people-watching session proved to be more fruitful than I expected! Through the magic of common begging — and with the help of a generous Comic-Con attendee — my boys and I were able to enter the Con and take a quick lap around the exhibit hall to see what we could see.
Comic-Con Can’t Be Contained!
If you dislike large, fantastically dressed crowds, or are a supervillain wishing to avoid any run-ins with the superhero community, you would be wise to stay away from downtown San Diego this weekend! Comic-Con 2009 has long been sold out — not to keep rubbing it in — but the Gaslamp Quarter is still the place to be this weekend, if only to get in some of the best people watching of the year. Sitting out on the patio of any restaurant in the Gaslamp Quarter gives you ringside seats to a true San Diego spectacle as our most colorful conventioneers fill the streets.
Oh, no. She didn’t!
Yes, I did. I went and got my undead on at last night’s Comic-Con Zombie Walk through the Gaslamp Quarter. You can see me lurch by at about 1:07. A few choice snaps after the jump…
Comic-Con No Tickets Required
The biggest pop culture extravaganza in the nation is upon us once again. Last year, I had tickets. So, in addition to walking the floor, some incredible celeb-sightings and crazy people-watching, I took in a panel honoring Ralph Bakshi, genius writer/director of the revolutionary Fritz the Cat, and a spirited session on all things steampunk. (Best. Costumes. Ever.) […]
5 to Try This Weekend
It’s prime time for pride time because the 34th Annual San Diego LGBT Pride Parade and Festival takes place this weekend. On Saturday at 11 a.m. the pride parade sweeps the streets from Hillcrest to Balboa Park with over 180 celebrating floats. Then on Saturday and Sunday, the party continues with the pride festival in […]
