About Sandra

Being a local Fashion Stylist I love sharing and connecting people with the latest "boutiques'" and "treasures" that San Diego has to offer. Whether with fashion, dining, or art I enjoy letting others in on new places that define San Diego. I adore dining out with my husband while enjoying a nice glass of wine at the Red Velvet Wine Bar or the roasted jalapeño blackberry margarita from Barrio Star. We love just chilling with our daughter and hanging out with close friends playing board games. Family, fashion, business, music, good food, wine, art, dark chocolate, dogs and laughter pretty much defines me! What would you do on your ideal San Diego day? Wake up, read the newspaper and WWD while loading up on coffee. Head down to Liberty Station to take a class at The Bar Method. Hit some tennis balls with my hubby and daughter. Have a relaxing lunch at either C Level, Bencotto, Cucina Urbana, Barrio Star or Tower 23 with family. End with a ride on Sunset Cliffs, stop to watch the sunset, then home sweet home! What is your favorite San Diego Outdoor activity? Riding bikes, tennis, walking along the bay, and of course shopping, it is a sport, right? Do you prefer burgers and beer or linguine and wine? Any homemade pasta and vino! Latest music purchases on my ipod are... Muse, Depeche Mode, 'Til Tuesday, One Republic, Pink, Christina Perri, The Smiths, Rihanna, Snow Patrol, Astrud Gilberto Visit Sandra at www.mymariposastyle.com

Four Boutiques to Find the Perfect San Diego Outfit

Discover Your San Diego Style

You may think that San Diego’s ideal weather would lend itself to always wearing flip-flops, t-shirts, and shorts, but think again. Summer Styles for San Diego and Where to Find Them

Summer is a time to let your hair down and start enjoying the glorious weather! During the months of June-August San Diego is known for an average high of 76 degrees and a low of 65 degrees. What does this mean when it comes to defining San Diego style? I like to call it California-Laid-Back-Chic!

Basically, our city is an active one, so styles need to be comfy yet chic. We are casual but do dress up when the occasion permits. Make sure to pack lightweight cotton and silk clothing, jeans, t-shirts, shorts and summer-type dresses for the warm days and a either a fitted jacket or a lightweight sweater for the cool evenings. During the day, always have handy your “sunnies” (sunglasses) and a cool hat like a Fedora.

There are many boutiques located throughout the quaint neighborhoods of San Diego offering great summer fashion and below are just a few of my favorites:

Maggie B

One of my favorite’s to shop in for summer attire is Maggie B in the chic area of Rancho Santa Fe. I love to shop here for everything from summer day dresses to resort wear. This is the perfect boutique to pick up the latest lightweight denim Capri’s during your vacation in San Diego. They are known for carrying both hard-to-find European and American designers at various price points. Be sure to check out the one-of-a-kind pieces of the local jewelry designs of Sette Divini Jewelry!

Location: 162 South Rancho Santa Fe Road, Encinitas, CA 92024 (map)

The Shopaholics Boutique

One of our newer boutiques in the trendy urban area of Little Italy, The Shopaholics Boutique, features the latest summer obsessions of bright bold colors to current prints! I love the uptown smart high-low dresses, shorts, and retro-80’s inspired asymmetrical cuts. The featured men’s line is a sought after Miami brand and only carried here on the west coast. With new merchandise arriving every week this boutique is a must see!

Girls from the Park

If resale shops are your thing, which it is for me, I highly recommend Girls from the Park, located in the quaint neighborhood of Point Loma. This modern spin on resale shops carries go-to brands that add instant polish to any summer attire. They are great at featuring the current summer wear and with the owner being a native San Diegian, she really knows our casual yet chic approach. I also love that they feature vintage pieces as well. You can be rest assured to find a one-of-a-kind summer addition here.

LeBelAge Boutique

My last, but certainly not least, recommendation on finding summer styles would be at LeBelAge Boutique, located on the chic shopping street of Mission Hills. The owner is always ahead of the game when it comes to seasonal style. The cotton maxi dresses, blouses, Capri’s and tunics are a perfect summer solution to any wardrobe. This boutique is a one-stop-shop in finding the perfect summer ensemble including jewelry and accessories. You won’t believe the fabulous price points and will be the talk of your town when you get home!

Interview With A Designer – Edward Wilkerson of Lafayette 148

Fashion Show at Neiman Marcus

I recently had the pleasure to sit down and interview the oh-so-talented, Edward Wilkerson, Design Director of the brand, Lafayette 148. The interview took place after the fabulous showing of his 2012 Spring Collection. We discussed the fashions of San Diego as well as some of his favorite spots in San Diego to visit. The 2012 Spring Collection was featured at Neiman Marcus, located at Fashion Valley Shopping Center, and definitely put me in pure vacation-mode!

Question: Having 1/3 of all visitors to San Diego include shopping on their activity list , how do you see San Diego with regards to accessibility to fashion choices?
Answer: Very accessible and adaptable to a realistic “lifestyle-wear.” Women evolve with fashion constantly. The styles of San Diego evoke going from “day to evening.” I like to visit at least once a year to listen to the customers and vendors.

How would you define San Diego’s style?
Casual, yet elegant and sophisticated.

Fashion Show at Neiman Marcus 2

How do you use social media as Design Director?
My staff uses it quite a bit to help promote the latest trends and styles. For me, personally, I am more of a tactile person and sketcher. I constantly carry with me two sketch books while I travel to document my inspirations.

What are you most inspired by?
I travel around the world for my design inspiration. I am also inspired by my customers. I take on a true personal approach to customer service. If a customer wants a sleeve longer or maybe a different color in one of my designs I make sure it happens for them.

What is your favorite thing to do while visiting San Diego? Place to stay?
During my week’s visit I loved riding bikes all around Coronado Island and made sure to visit the Hotel del Coronado. I thoroughly enjoyed having lunch at C Level Restaurant located on Harbor Island and having breakfast while I sketched at the rooftop restaurant of the Andaz San Diego Hotel located in the Gaslamp Quarter of downtown. Spending time in Little Italy was also a treat!

Best advice ever given to you?
Always put your best foot forward.

What is your personal motto?
Live every day to its fullest, make every moment count.

Favorite drink?
A concoction that Rebecca, a true mixologist, created at the bar at the Andaz San Diego Hotel!

Define the woman who wears Lafayette 148?
Someone similar to the San Diego woman; casual and elegant, showcasing wearable fashion. The innovative creations can take you from the boardroom to an evening out to a weekend get-a-way.

NOTE: Lafayette 148 is sold at Neiman Marcus and Nordstrom.
