The 7th Annual Loews Coronado Bay Resort Surf Dog Competition laps up the fun tomorrow in Imperial Beach (at Dunes Park/Beach, 700 Seacoast Dr.), just down the peninsula from Coronado.
3 for Free: Wheel fun in San Diego’s East County!
Summer’s finally here – my favorite time of year to hit the open road and explore San Diego’s scenic backcountry! Our East County is dotted with small cities and towns nestled in the rolling foothills and mountains that entice motorists to their Norman Rockwell-esque main streets with classic car shows the whole family can enjoy.
Get your motor running all summer long at these three FREE roadside events.
Just Beachy: Coronado Named #1 Beach in America!
Shhh… can you keep a secret? I almost couldn’t. I’ve known for weeks that postcard-perfect Coronado Beach was going to be crowned America’s Best Beach by “Dr. Beach.” However, I couldn’t tell a soul. I promised coastal expert Stephen Leatherman (aka Dr. Beach), that mums the word until May 25.
And today’s the day! I’m shouting it from the highest sand dunes on the island that Coronado is the #1 stretch of sand in the United States!
5 to Try: Roadside Wonders of San Diego’s East County
You might recall my blog awhile back on Quirky Roadside Attractions in San Diego’s East County region. With Memorial Day around the bend, now is the perfect time to map out another adventure to discover some wonderfully fascinating finds in our backcountry. After the break are 5 to Try:
3 For Free: Spring Flings in San Diego!
Spring is in full swing in San Diego. With sun shiny days and pleasantly warm temperatures in the 70s, now is a perfect time to head outdoors and explore some great upcoming spring and garden festivals.
After the break are three fun spring flings to check out this May.
San Diego’s Coronado Blooms – and Zooms – this Weekend!
Spring has sprung! Big white tents are sprouting up like flowers in Spreckels Park, Coronado in preparation for the big 87th Annual Coronado Flower Show this weekend, April 21-22. The delightful kaleidoscope of colors, encompassing the 600 block of Orange Avenue, makes it the most popular springtime event on the island!
Foodie Friday – A World of Great Eats in Coronado!
One of the favorite things about my job is trying new restaurants and sampling creative mouthwatering cuisine from cultures far and near. Coronado – a bridge away from downtown San Diego – has become a culinary hot spot, making waves with the opening of new restaurants that span the world of dining.
Spring to Anza-Borrego Desert State Park for Sensational Hikes
I recently laced up my hiking shoes and trekked through Anza-Borrego Desert State Park (located 2 hours east of San Diego) to discover some of the most pristine, untouched wilderness in Southern California, including Clark Dry Lake bed, winding slot canyons and phenomenal vistas from Font’s Point, “California’s Grand Canyon” (RV Life).
Museum Month: Enchantment Awaits on Coronado Island
As the days count down for San Diego Museum Month (1/2 price admission to 40 participating museums), across the bridge on Coronado Island, the charming Coronado Museum of History and Art, chock full of history and visionary tales told with a plethora of enchanting educational activities and exhibits, awaits visitors.
After the break are 5 of my must-see/must-try picks at the Coronado Museum…
Make tracks for San Diego’s East County Museums
San Diego Museum Month is in full swing (1/2 price admission to 40 participating museums!) and there’s no better time to explore some lesser-known museum jewels in the San Diego’s East County communities. They may not be the biggest cultural institutions on the map, but they’re certainly some of the most charming and a great way to discover the Wild West heritage of our rustic backcountry.
After the break are are my Top 5 Favorite East County museums.
