Aloha from San Diego! đ
Yep, some really cool Hawaiian and South Seas influences, architecture and tikis (my favorite!) can be found throughout San Diego, particularly Shelter Island on San Diego Bay, Point Loma, Mission Valley and Mission Bay.

With the eagerly awaited arrival of Comic-Con International this week, San Diego is gleefully celebrating all things comic. And whether or not you were lucky enough to have scored Comic-Con tickets, you can certainly partake in San Diegoâs love affair with the genre. No matter what time of year you visit San Diego, youâll find the spirit of Comic-Con thriving at San Diegoâs many comic book stores.
Mabuhay! That’s Tagalog for “cheers” or “welcome.” When you visit National City, south of downtown San Diego, you’ll indeed feel welcome to this tight-knit community that celebrates its rich Filipino heritage.
There’s no better way to experience San Diego’s Filipino culture than through its mouthwatering food. Following are a few of my favorite, tried and true restaurants to try, plus a couple bakeries to satisfy those sweet cravings.
Just in case you havenât heard, there are two things that define San Diego: the beach and beer. Magic happens when these two come together. Such is the case with Draft, the newest restaurant at historic Belmont Park on Mission Beach. Draft recently opened its doors on the boardwalk overlooking the beautiful Pacific Ocean. So, in the spirit of research, and a much-needed drink, our blogger Edna stopped by with the mission to draft you a picture

San Diego is teeming with nightlife options. But if you want a romantic night out with that special someone, a bustling brewery or crowded dance floor might not be the right fit. Fortunately, with so many incredible bars and cocktail lounges, it’s easy to find one to impress your date.

Many travelers think of the East Coast as the home of U.S. history, but there’s plenty for history buffs to discover in San Diego, too! If you’re traveling with an eye to the past, try this three-day itinerary for stepping back in time to explore San Diego’s vibrant heritage.
Do you remember where you were when Landon Donovan put the ball behind GK Raïs M'Bolhi in the 91st minute of the US vs. Algeria game in 2010 World Cup? I do! Even though I had work that day and the sun had barely come up, I made my way to the Blind Lady Ale House in Normal Heights and anxiously hoped for a miracle. When Donovan placed Dempsey's rebound in the back of the net, the entire bar erupted with thunderous applause, high fives and a few tears of joy!
Even though San Diego may not have a soccer team (cough, cough…MLS…cough, cough…Chivas needs a new home and a fresh start…cough, cough), it does have some of the most rabid football fans in the country (during the 2010 World Cup, San Diego ranked in the top 5 TV markets). Bars, restaurants and pubs throughout the county will be full of fans watching Brazil's opening kick off against Croatia to the final on July 13.
If you want to feel the rush and excitement of the world's most popular game, head to any one of these pubs/bars and join in the chants (especially on Monday, 16 June, at 3:00 PM).
I’m on a “mission” (pun intended đ ) to find the most affordable sights, bites and places to stay in Mission Valley and share them with you for when you visit San Diego.

Though he was born in Australia, Rob Machado is a San Diegan through and through. This professional surfer has been in the water all over the world, but he still loves surfing San Diego. “I’ve been a lot of places, and there’s not that many places around the world where you have an area that so compact with so many good surf spots,” Rob says.

Callaway Golf Ambassador Tina Mickelson knows a thing or two about San Diego. Not only has she spent lots of time on the region’s many golf courses (just like her brother, Phil Mickelson), but she also loves to get out and explore the region with family and friends. Join Tina, one of San Diego’s Guides to the Good Stuff, in exploring what makes San Diego a great place for golf-lovers and non-golfers alike.
