This is the weekend of the festival. With weather projected to be above 70 degrees all weekend, what better way to celebrate being in San Diego than participating in one of these fun festivals. Which one sounds fun to you?
Little Italy FESTA!: In its 16th year, the Little Italy neighborhood continues to celebrate its heritage by bringing the passion, vibrancy and flavors of Italy to southern California with its yearly treasured event, the Little Italy FESTA on October 10th. More than 150 vendors, three stages of entertainment, Gesso Italiano (Italian Chalk), an Italian motorsport show, a Stickball exhibition game, …
1. Head over to Del Mar and enjoy the Annual Taste and Art Stroll on Saturday, October 2nd. The event includes a free art stroll, juried original artwork by talented, local and regional artists, live music, a children’s interactive art area and a pet stroll.
2. Share in the tradition “as American as apple pie” when you head up to Julian for the Annual Julian Fall Apple Harvest. The event runs from September 15-November 15th and celebrates the historic mountain town’s famous homemade apple pies and ciders. Visitors can also enjoy acres of colorful fall foliage, art shows, quaint …
Saturday, September 25th is National Museum Day. What is National Museum Day you ask? It’s an annual event hosted by Smithsonian Media in which participating museums across the country open their doors for FREE to anyone presenting a Museum Day Ticket. Sounds like a good idea to me! The great thing is there are over 15 museums participating in San Diego County! Everything from the Museum of Making Music in Carlsbad to the Reuben H. Fleet Science Center in Balboa Park are taking part.
It’s a great opportunity to see a museum you have never been to. I have …
There is a place in San Diego I have been to many, many times. It’s a place we go when we have friends and family visit. We go when the weather is nice and we go when the weather isn’t so nice. We go during the holidays, on weekends, weekdays and even for a field trip. It is simply one of my son’s favorite places – Legoland. He’s 7 and like most boys his age; he LOVES Legos. This weekend, my daughter wasn’t feeling well, so she stayed home with dad and Brett had Legoland to himself (or at …
Grandparents Day is Sunday, September 12th! In honor of all the grandparents out there, here are our 5 to Try with the grandparents. Our kids and the grandparents have tried all of these activities and I think all would give them two thumbs up!
Reuben H. Fleet Science Center: On Sunday, September 12th, the Science Center is offering free admission for grandparents and their grandkids! The Science Center offers exciting “do touch” science exhibits for visitors age 1 to 101. Our favorite area is the “block buster’s.” Visitors can build fun structures with thousands of KEVA planks – no glue …
Recently, our blogger extraordinaire Stephenie wrote an entry about interesting historical sites in San Diego. I realized after reading it my kids might actually get a kick out of seeing them (and learn something too!) I decided our first stop would be the Sunny Jim Cave, located in La Jolla. If you haven’t been or heard about it; it’s worth the 145 steps down and up. Mia and Brett were really excited to hear there is a “secret” cave you enter through a store. It does sound really fun, especially when I told them it was built over …
Tucked inside the Casa de Balboa building in Balboa Park is the San Diego Model Railroad Museum. It is the world’s largest operating model railroad museum and holds four enormous scale and model layouts depicting railroads of the Southwest. My son, who’s 7, loves going. Each time we go, we find something new and fun. On this last trip, our favorite model railroad was the Toy Train Gallery. In this exhibit, there are four separate main lines, realistic scenery, and many operating accessories. A “choo-choo cam” broadcasts a color image to a television screen to give visitors a great …
With the weather hovering around a perfect 73 degrees this weekend, what better way to enjoy it than by spending the day in the great outdoors – and even better – on the water. In San Diego, you can run, ride, and skateboard near the water’s edge, and in the water is just as fun! Here our picks for some fun in the sun and on the water.
Mission Bay Park: There is so much to do in and around Mission Bay Park, and one of the most thrilling activities is renting a jet ski. It can get …
Today is National Ice Cream Sandwich Day (yes there is an actual day for this), so we decided to find the best and most interesting ice cream sandwiches in San Diego. What better way to celebrate a beautiful San Diego day then with one of these tasty treats?
Lighthouse Ice Cream and Yogurt – located in Ocean Beach, this is your classic beach ice cream shop. They feature the most amazing Hot Waffle Ice Cream Sandwich. First, you choose your flavor of ice cream and then, they sandwich it between two Belgium waffles and put it in an iron at …
This past weekend, I took my kids to see “There’s Something About Seahorses” at the Birch Aquarium. It’s a great place to spend a few hours, especially if you are entertaining a crowd. To access the seahorses we first went through “Feeling the Heat: The Climate Challenge” exhibit. It’s a very interactive exhibit that helps teach kids and adults about the environment. Apparently the exhibit is very effective, because after we arrived home, my daughter told me I needed to make sure all of our light bulbs were CFL’s (which for the record most of them already are).
The …
