Men and shopping? You bet! And San Diego is just the place to find that perfect ensemble to fit any occasion. As a personal wardrobe stylist I feel that clothing for men is less complicated than for women. San Diego’s local boutiques have embraced this concept making it easy to find anything from Casual-Chic to […]
Fall and Winter Fashion Trends and Where to Get Them in San Diego
Even though San Diego’s consistent favorable weather might make you think that we don’t shop for the latest fall and winter fashion trends; we certainly embrace the season’s ensembles that fit our active lifestyle and great weather!
At the “Westfield Style Tour,” Stacy London, from What Not To Wear, described San Diego’s style as healthy, colorful, and cheerful and that made me think that the jewel tones for fall and winter will fit perfectly! Some key pieces to buy while visiting San Diego would be, colored denim, a casual-chic jacket, or a gem colored holiday dress.
Some of these items can be found at various boutiques around San Diego after the break.
Fresh Food Daily at San Diego Farmers Markets
San Diego may be a laid-back town, but we take our food very seriously. With a diverse landscape and mild temperatures, San Diego County boasts ideal conditions for farming, so it’s no surprise that the county is home to more than 6,000 small and family-owned farms. These farmers provide chefs from local restaurants with access to the freshest possible ingredients, but you don’t have to pull up a seat at a restaurant to enjoy some of San Diego’s local bounty.
Neighborhood Shopping Spotlight: Little Italy
San Diego is home to dozens of vibrant neighborhoods, each with its own style and flair, and it’s in these neighborhoods that you’ll often find San Diego’s best hidden treasures.
Though the neighborhood may once have been home to San Diego’s flourishing tuna fishing industry, today’s Little Italy is a lively and design-conscious neighborhood filled with patio cafes, restaurants, pubs, art galleries and some of the city’s most stylish shops.
Fashion Week Returns to San Diego
New York, Paris, Milan and…San Diego? Yes, you can add this beach town to the list of top fashion destinations thanks to some up-and-coming designers, hip boutiques sprouting up across neighborhoods and the return of Fashion Week San Diego.
Cool Neighborhood Shopping in San Diego
True San Diego fashionista’s know about the urban-chic areas to shop at. For those of you who may not know, I thought I would share some of the areas that have a cool-factor and can accomplish most shopping missions. Three of my fav’s are Hillcrest, North Park and South Park. These neighborhoods offer a unique shopping experience for both women and men with clothing, vintage, accessories and home goods.
Candice’s Perfect Day in San Diego
How would Candice spend one perfect day in San Diego? Hint: it involves murals painted beneath the Coronado Bridge, shopping at a pop-up flea market and cocktails sporting tiny umbrellas.
A Midnight Stroll through San Diego’s Old Town
I am in Old Town at midnight. I am not surprised. While it is a place, without question, built for tourists, I balk at the suggestion that ‘locals don’t go there’ and such ‘traps’ should be avoided by those looking for an ‘authentic’ experience.
For me, there is nothing more authentic and alluring than the post-structuralist break-down of real and pretend. Old Town is a piece of living theater staged on the actual blood, sweat and bones of San Diego’s history. The lines between reality and mythology blur amongst historical landmarks and themed restaurants, dusty graveyards and costumed guides.
Summer Styles for San Diego and Where to Find Them
Summer is a time to let your hair down and start enjoying the glorious weather! During the months of June-August San Diego is known for an average high of 76 degrees and a low of 65 degrees. What does this mean when it comes to defining San Diego style? I like to call it California-Laid-Back-Chic!
Basically, our city is an active one, so styles need to be comfy yet chic. We are casual but do dress up when the occasion permits. Make sure to pack lightweight cotton and silk clothing, jeans, t-shirts, shorts and summer-type dresses for the warm days and a either a fitted jacket or a lightweight sweater for the cool evenings. During the day, always have handy your “sunnies” (sunglasses) and a cool hat like a Fedora.
There are many boutiques located throughout the quaint neighborhoods of San Diego offering great summer fashion and after the break are just a few of my favorites.
