USA Today recently revealed its Top Destinations for Spring Break and San Diego (of course!) was among them. After the break are 5 reasons why we think San Diego is a top pick for Spring Break…

Take a musical leap! Famed Italian opera composer Gioachino Rossini, born February 29, 1792, turns 55-leap-years-young today! And if Google is celebrating a musical leap day, who are we to argue? Ishmael’s Got Nothin’ on Us: Whale Watching on Yacht America
On a brisk 64-degree Sunday morning in February, we climbed aboard the historic sailing yatch, America, for a 4-hour whale watching excursion with Next Level Sailing. Filled with anticipation and excitement, dressed in plenty of layers and loaded up with Dramamine, we were ready to set sail for an adventure day on the high seas.
Museum Month: With Seven Days Left, Head North!
With only seven days left until the end of San Diego Museum Month, head to North County for three unique exhibitions at the Museum of Making Music, Oceanside Museum of Art, and the Lux Art Institute. As a resident of Encinitas, I frequent two of these museums, and the other tops my list of “best museum I haven’t been to yet, but love already.”
True Jewels of San Diego: Explore the Museums of La Jolla
As one of the most beloved communities in San Diego, beholden by its natural beauty, rich heritage and a luxurious yet laid back vibe, La Jolla is a must-visit stop on any San Diego vacation itinerary. From the dramatic coastline unmatched in majesty, to premier dining establishments, elegant hotels, world-class shopping, treasured art and cultural institutions, La Jolla certainly lives up to the meaning of its name, which translates to "the jewel" in Spanish.
If you're exploring La Jolla during February Museum Month, don’t miss three great arts and culture attractions that you can enjoy at 50% off admission. Just pick up a Museum Month pass at any San Diego County Macy’s location, and head to one of the following museums to take in mind-blowing contemporary art, explore wondrous sea creatures or enjoy a blast from historic La Jolla’s past.
Listen Live in San Diego: When Every Day is Mardi Gras!
Officially, Fat Tuesday falls on February 21, 2012. And when Sir Simon Cowell himself says that “DJ’s are the new rock stars,” it is fair to pay homage in this blog to the 4 stages and rotating DJ’s of Mardi Gras in the Gaslamp on Tuesday, February 21. But while I may give up carbs or cuss words for the Lenten season, I certainly am NOT giving up live music- which makes every day Mardi Gras for me! What will be your musical Mardi Gras this year?
Make tracks for San Diego’s East County Museums
San Diego Museum Month is in full swing (1/2 price admission to 40 participating museums!) and there’s no better time to explore some lesser-known museum jewels in the San Diego’s East County communities. They may not be the biggest cultural institutions on the map, but they’re certainly some of the most charming and a great way to discover the Wild West heritage of our rustic backcountry.
After the break are are my Top 5 Favorite East County museums.
Beach Nightlife in San Diego
As I’ve mentioned many times in the past, the beauty of San Diego’s nightlife scene is that there is something for everyone. Whether you’re wearing your best Sean John outfit or would rather party it up in your boardshorts and a t-shirt, San Diego has a place for you to wile the night away. Looking specifically at the more relaxed, “beach style” nightlife of Ocean Beach, Mission Beach and Pacific Beach, there are a number of great options.
Check them out after the break…
Obstacle Races in San Diego – Are You Tough Enough?!
Having just completed the Southern California Spartan Race last weekend in Temecula, my interest in obstacle races has piqued. Who else out there enjoys torturing themselves by running miles and miles while climbing over/under walls, jumping fire, dodging gladiators and in general just beating your body to a pulp? I certainly didn’t think I was going to be “that guy,” but I challenged myself to do the Spartan this year as a motivator to improve my fitness and health in 2012 – and ended up enjoying it (did I just write that?!).
So for those who are already into these types of races, or those that would like to challenge themselves, after the break are a few other San Diego obstacle races that are happening in the not too distant future
